| One day my little Granddaughter 'Madison'
came over and said... 'Grandma Deb are we baking
today or what?' I loved the way it sounded
coming from her tiny voice and that is where the name
originated! |
| Several years ago, I
took my cake as a hostess gift to a Christmas party. Many
people approached me throughout the evening asking if I
would consider baking them one. This past Christmas, I used
my 125 year old family recipe to bake a few cakes. I took
samples of my cake everywhere I went and in less than seven
weeks, I received over 350 orders! During this same time
period, I took orders for and baked over 60 dozen Scottish
Shortbread and put together 40 Gourmet Gift Baskets.
Each cake is baked then wrapped in a
rum soaked cheesecloth, wax paper, saran wrap, a festive
cello-wrap and then labelled. |
 |
I bake three sizes, the small being the most popular as many
are ordered as gifts for employees, teachers, clients and
hostess. After receiving such positive feedback from my
customers, I decided my fruit cake had to be made available
to everyone!

People who never liked
fruit cake in the past ordered the cake after
tasting it. They loved it! Some even used the cake
as their Christmas Pudding with a hot rum sauce.
Others put custard, warmed Grand Marnier and even
ice cream with the cake. Not a week goes by that
someone hasn't spoken to me about the cake. In fact,
people in town are even calling me "Grandma Deb"
when they see me.
Grandma Deb's gourmet is about bringing back the old
tradition and the true meaning of dark fruit cake.
My cakes are baked out of my home in Barrie,
Ontario. |
Five years and
ten thousand cakes later each pan is still baked
with love. I am very proud to be sharing a part of
this delicious great great grandma recipe with
everyone.
